The Japan Times is giving away three copies of a historical novel recently<\/p>\n
completed by a former contributor to the newspaper.<\/p>\n
“A Thousand Years of Love,” a 176-page novel penned by Avia Belle Moon,<\/p>\n
is set in the ancient capital of Kyoto and the Chinese city of Hangzhou during<\/p>\n
the Heian Period (794-1185).<\/p>\n
Lady Kaishi, a noblewoman of the Heian Court, is trying to find her mother’s<\/p>\n
grave. Her travels take her from Kyoto to the Temple of the Purple Clouds on<\/p>\n
the shores of the West Lake in China. Along the way, her journey becomes<\/p>\n
one of inner exploration as well.<\/p>\n
The author says the book is not only a description of luxury and life in the<\/p>\n
Heian Period, but also an exploration of the dramatic conflict between the<\/p>\n
masculine and feminine.<\/p>\n
