A THOUSAND YEARS OF LOVE |
Welcome! I began a writing career in Japan over 15 years ago with a book on ancient Japanese nobility. Now I find myself writing about the paranormal. Writing is an odyssey through the subconscious mind-you don't know where you will end up on your journey, but it's always an enlightening one. My purpose as a writer is to express what is left unsaid in the mind and heart, and to express what needs to expressed. If my writing can influence the way society views issues of profound significance, such as love and death, then I’m happy. Writing for me is more then setting words down on paper-it is an art that has the power to detoxify the negativity in our lives. As Anais Nin said, "I think we have to go through this process of alchemy so that even the horrible things we have experienced are transformed into creative experiences." I value courage and integrity in writing, and resonate with the words of Susan Sontag, who “insisted that with literary talent came an obligation to speak out on the great issues of the day.” I believe that if we have the gift to articulate in an artistic or creative way, we should use it for the good of society. To keep writing as long as I’m alive-this is my raison detre. My writer’s bucket list- To keep a life long diary or blog To publish a book of my travels throughout Japan on Buddhist sites I have visited. A book on macrobiotics and how it can change the health and wellness landscape of the 21st century. Environmental racism is a topic that fascinates me, and I’d like to write a novel centered on this theme. To write a children’s book-I have written a short story, “Kayawa” centered on the border issues that Japan has with Korea… More to come:) I hope you enjoy this site-please scroll down to read more about my books |

"I am half-way through Avia Belle Moon's "A Thousand Years of Love" . If you haven't picked it up, I highly recommend you do so. Indeed, even through the masterful translations of Waley, Siedensticker, Royall Tyler and the brilliant studies by Ivan Morris and others, Heian culture and times are frustratingly distant, foreign, alien, inaccessible – at least for me. What is wonderful about Avia Belle Moon's novel is that in addition to being delightful reading, it provides the average Western reader with access to the culture and times of Lady Murasaki in a way no other modern novel I have read – English or Japanese – does. I plan to post more substantive thoughts on the book

she also meets Anastasia, a Russian art exchange student searching for her
identity in Anastasia Romanov, the alleged murdered daughter of the last tsar
of Russia. From the opening scene of a woman about to jump in front of a
train, the interplay between these three characters drives the dynamics of
plot in a setting of psychological tension and suspense, shifting between the
two faces of Japanese society…uraomote. Temple of the Dueling Heart can be
called a ghost story, in that each character must confront phantoms from
their past. Or it could be called a brain scan of modern Japan, with a
paranormal twist…
