OF NOTE

Win erotic Kyoto novel by Moon

The Japan Times is giving away three copies of a historical novel recently

completed by a former contributor to the newspaper.

“A Thousand Years of Love,” a 176-page novel penned by Avia Belle Moon,

is set in the ancient capital of Kyoto and the Chinese city of Hangzhou during

the Heian Period (794-1185).

Lady Kaishi, a noblewoman of the Heian Court, is trying to find her mother’s

grave. Her travels take her from Kyoto to the Temple of the Purple Clouds on

the shores of the West Lake in China. Along the way, her journey becomes

one of inner exploration as well.

The author says the book is not only a description of luxury and life in the

Heian Period, but also an exploration of the dramatic conflict between the

masculine and feminine.

Those interested should send a postcard to: Gakugei-bu (Love-kakari), The

Japan Times, 4-5-4 Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo 108-8071. The deadline is

June 10. Senders must include name and address.

The author will hold a book-signing session 3-4 p.m. on June 5 at Avanti

Book Center [(075) 682-5031] in Kyoto. The book, priced at $18.99, is

available at Kinokuniya’s Minami Shinjuku Store in Tokyo and its Umeda

Store in Osaka. It will also be available until July 1 at Avanti Book Center and

Maruzen Books in Kawaramachi, Kyoto.
